The Rainbow
NEW PRODUCTION 2022
A rehearsed reading at the Edinburgh Fringe 2022 of a groundbreaking new adaptation of DH Lawrence’s The Rainbow
Weds 10th August, 7pm at Zoo Southside (Main House)
Originally published in 1915, the writing is extraordinarily ahead of its time as Lawrence explores the experiences of 3 generations of Polish women living in rural Nottinghamshire at the turn of the 20th Century, alongside themes of nationalism, urban versus agricultural landscape, female emancipation, sexuality, masculinity, mothering and religion to name a few!
Our groundbreaking adaptation will focus on the 3 Polish women at the centre of this rich work. Through interweaving narration and dialogue, the work will create a space for matrilineal knowledge, and will contribute to debate around decolonising narratives by addressing the significance of the women’s Polish heritage.
This is a work in progress event supported by Zoo Venues and directed by Jo Newman.
